3.Mixed conditional clauses

Mixed conditional structures combine the verb form from two different conditional patterns and  express past actions with present implications. The most common combinations are:

  • unreal past+unreal present  e.g.: If we had listened to the forecast, we would not be in trouble now.
  • unreal present+unreal past  e.g.: If I was afraid of lightening(but I am not), I would not have gone out in the storm.
