The Present Perfect Simple: Form and Use

 FORM:

Affirmative: You have seen the movie last night.

Negative: You have not seen the movie last night.

Interrogative: Have you seen the movie last night?

 

 

 USE:

  • when we are no longer interested in the time when the past action took place, but in its result into the present.
  • when the past action continues in the present and, perhaps, it will go on into the future, too.
  • to express completed activities in the immediate past. The verb is generally accompanied by: just, lately, recently, so far, up to now, the  last few days.
  • with words denoting incomplete period of time: today, this week, this month, this year, all day.
